TOLEDO, Ohio -- Once again, the Toledo Walleye will serve as the Red Wings primary ECHL affilaite. Under terms of the agreement, the Red Wings will assign contracted players to the Walleye.
With an emphasis on player development, the Walleye will serve as the Red Wings' ECHL affiliate. The Walleye will also work and develop prospects with Detroit’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
"We're proud to continue our partnership with Toledo as our ECHL affiliate," said Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill. "The patient development of young talent is a cornerstone to the Red Wings' success and the Walleye franchise is a key component to that process. We look forward to another successful season working with Nick Vitucci and his staff."
Walleye coach and director of player personnel Nick Vitucci said, "We are very excited to once again be working with the Detroit Red Wings. What an honor that Ken Holland, Jim Nill, Ryan Martin and the Red Wings staff have placed on us by allowing us to work and develop their good young talent."
Walleye president/general manager Joe Napoli added, "The Red Wings are first class. They visit Toledo often, which helps Nick Vitucci recruit talented players, and they send the Walleye quality players. We couldn’t ask for anything more."
