Wings open Red Kettle season

DETROIT -- Red Wings general manager and honorary Red Kettle chairman Ken Holland will help The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit launch its annual Red Kettle Campaign by ringing the first bell of the season at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.

Beginning at 10 a.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 13, The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles will be stationed at more than 300 locations throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Red kettle locations include, retailers and businesses such as Kroger, WalMart, Sam’s Club, JCPenney and Walgreens, among others.
Red Kettle donations will be collected through Thursday, Dec. 24. Contributions also can be made by calling 877-SAL-MICH or given online at until Jan. 31, 2009.
