Detroit got the monkey off its back by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena. Newly-recalled forward Gustav Nyquist led the way with a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 4:02 left in the third. The 24-year old Swedish forward, called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday, might be the spark the Red Wings need.

"He was a big factor in this game," captain Henrik Zetterberg said of Nyquist. "He comes in right away and scores on his first shift and he creates a lot of speed and energy. And it looks like he's got confidence."
Tonight, the Wings will look to keep the ball rolling against the Senators.
