DETROIT -- As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Night on October 21, the Detroit Red Wings Foundation will award up to $66,500 in financial assistance to local hockey families that have been affected by breast cancer.

Any hockey family that includes someone currently receiving treatment or on-going medical follow-up for breast cancer and are in need of help paying for everyday living expenses such as rent, utility bills and child care are eligible to apply. To be considered for a grant, completed application forms must be submitted to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation by January 2, 2011.

The Detroit Red Wings Foundation is an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, a 501 (c)(3) organization. The Foundation invests in the future of our community by providing funds and resources to worthy causes that contribute to the growth of the sport of hockey.

The Detroit Red Wings take on the Calgary Flames Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Joe Louis Arena.
