The Detroit Red Wings won two of three games against the New Jersey Devils last season. Detroit forward Johan Franzen scored four goals, and forward Gustav Nyquist had five assists. Goalie Jonas Gustavsson got each of the Red Wings' wins, but he is out with a separated shoulder. Devils goalie Cory Schneider had a 5.04 goals-against average and .815 save percentage in two losses.

Detroit starts a four-game homestand after going 0-1-2 on a three-game road trip that ended with a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Goalie Petr Mrazek was recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League to back up Jimmy Howard, who is off to a good start (5-2-3, 1.96, .928). Forward Daniel Cleary played 9:06 in his first game since Jan. 28.

"[Cleary] is just a good veteran," coach Mike Babcock told the Red Wings website. "We had no life the other night, and he came in the other night and talked in the room and talked on the bench and helped us get organized and get going. That's what he's supposed to do." The Red Wings, who were off Thursday, are 4-1-1 at home.
