RALEIGH -- The Red Wings are starting to make these comebacks from two-goal deficits a habit.
In the last two games against the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers, the Wings rallied from 2-0 deficits to win in a shootout and overtime, respectively.

On Saturday night in Carolina, the Hurricanes took a 3-1 lead before the Wings came back to tie the game, 3-3, behind two goals from Anthony Mantha in the third period.
Mantha had a great chance to win in it overtime but Hurricanes goaltender Scott Darling robbed him and then Mike Green on the rebound.
Shootout dominator Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Wings a 4-3 victory.

According to NHL Public Relations, it is the first time in franchise history that the Wings have overcome a multi-goal deficit to win three straight regular-season games.
Andreas Athanasiou and Mantha (two) scored for the Wings and Brock McGinn, Micheal Ferland (power play) and Dougie Hamilton scored for the Hurricanes.
Detroit goaltender Jonathan Bernier made a new career-high 49 saves. Darling made 29.
The Wings improved to 7-8-2 while the Hurricanes fell to 7-7-3.
Detroit returns home to host the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday while Carolina hosts the Chicago Blackhawks Monday night.
1. Anthony Mantha: Mantha had two shots through the first two periods with nothing to show for it. But in the third when his team needed him most, Mantha stepped up and got results. At 6:04, Athanasiou found Mantha in the left circle and Mantha beat Darling glove-side. Gustav Nyquist picked up the second assist. Then, just 2:58 later, Mantha's shot from the right circle beat Darling, tying the game, 3-3. Darren Helm and Larkin assisted. In seven career games against the Hurricanes, Mantha now has four goals. Mantha very nearly ended the game in overtime when Athanasiou found him but Darling was there for the stop. Mantha finished with 23 shifts for 20:18, had five shots, four takeaways and was plus-2
Quotable: "The first one was calculated. I kind of saw the two-on-one coming up and I went low glove. The second one was just a reaction off of that first shot block. The goalie was down already, so I just went over his shoulder." -- Mantha

Quotable II: "He's a goal-scorer. If you give him almost anywhere inside the blue line his wrist shot is heavy enough to beat a goalie. He can be a difference-maker every night." -- Nielsen
Quotable III: "Play like he has since Dallas. For me, he's played very well through that stretch and hasn't gotten rewarded with points. I don't think you can judge points in the short term. If he plays the way he's played over the last number of games, he'll get rewarded and he'll get the goals, he'll get the assists, he'll get the points. He's just got to keep skating. I think he's done a real good job of it overall, I think he's been a real good player the last number of games. He's just got to keep going." -- Wings coach Jeff Blashill
2. Jonathan Bernier: Everyone knew Bernier would be getting the start in Carolina as Jimmy Howard always plays against the New York Rangers. Bernier came into the game 4-4-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in eight career games against the Hurricanes. The Wings were able to limit the Hurricanes to 18 shots in the first, but Carolina did get a goal when Brock McGinn went to the net for a rebound at 16:40, putting the puck between defenseman Danny DeKeyser's legs. In the second, Carolina threw 19 shots at Bernier and it was all Bernier could to to prevent the Wings from trailing by more than the 3-1 score at the end of the second. The Wings were better in the third but the Hurricanes still managed to get 15 more shots, all of which Bernier saved. In the shootout, Bernier stopped Jaccob Slavin, McGinn and Sebastian Aho.

Quotable: "I work hard in practice to stay in good shape. I thought in the second I ran out a little bit. I felt like they were in our zone the whole period, but recovered well in the third. I felt good. It's not the way you definitely want to win but it shows a lot of character. I didn't think we played our game tonight. I thought they had more jump than us but in the third we came up big and tied it up and in overtime you never know what can happen. I thought we took over in the third." -- Bernier
Quotable II: "It was great, especially in the second period. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have even had a chance in the third coming back here. Big game for him." -- Nielsen
Quotable III: "He played amazing. Great saves. That back door play on Aho, I think that's a game changer right there." -- Mantha
Quotable IV: "When your goalie keeps you within reach, it's been a few games, last night and tonight, when we weren't good enough, our goalie kept us within reach. So then it allows you to come back. You can't come back if you get down three and four goals." -- Blashill
3. Andreas Athanasiou: Whatever rust Athanasiou had from missing four games with a lower-body injury, he got rid of against the New York Rangers Friday night. Athanasiou scored the game-tying goal late in third and assisted on Dylan Larkin's overtime game-winner. Athanasiou picked up where he left off, rifling a shot from the right circle past Darling at 8:04 of the first period. Nick Jensen and Frans Nielsen assisted on Athanasiou's sixth goal of the year. Athanasiou trails only Larkin (seven) for the team lead in goals. Athanasiou also assisted on Mantha's first goal. In seven games against the Hurricanes, Athanasiou has four goals and four assists. Athanasiou finished with 27 shifts for 17:39, had three shots, a hit, a giveaway, two blocked shots, was plus-2 and 1-for-3 in face-offs.

Quotable: "I actually thought I had him (in overtime). Double-A, he came back to the bench and he had his arms up; I was celling (celebrating) already. Obviously, the goalie made a great save there." - Mantha
