DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings will take a win any way they can get it - even in a shootout.
The Philadelphia Flyers battled back against the Wings twice in the third period but Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in the shootout to lift Detroit to a 5-4 victory.

The win snapped the Wings' 10-game winless streak and gave them a 5-1 record in shootouts this season. They are 15-1 in their last 16 shootouts.
The Wings improved to 27-35-11 overall and 14-14-8 at home while the Flyers fell to 37-25-12 overall and 19-12-6 on the road.
Dylan Larkin (two), Luke Glendening (shorthanded), Evgeny Svechnikov and Nielsen (shootout winner) scored for Detroit while Sean Couturier, Matt Read, Shayne Gostisbehere and Travis Konecny scored for Philadelphia.
1.Dylan Larkin: After a scoreless first period, there were some nervous fans of both teams waiting for the first goal. That came at 6:08 when Larkin sped into the offensive zone and fired a shot from the right circle that beat former Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek stick-side. It was Larkin's 10th goal of the season and 50th of his young career. It was Larkin's first goal in 18 games, with the last one coming Feb. 13 at home against the Anaheim Ducks. After the Flyers had tied the game at 3, Larkin shot the puck over the shoulder of goaltender Alex Lyon at 14:06 of the third. Larkin finished with a team-high eight shots in leading all forwards with 21:10 and was 10-of-15 in face-offs. Larkin also got the second assist on Svechnikov's goal, his team-leading 42nd helper. It was Larkin's third career two-goal game and third three-point game.
Quotable: "It had been a while. It felt good to get some pucks. I got a couple good chances and it felt pretty good to score on Petr. The second one was a nice feed from Moe, so it does feel good to maybe get a little confidence in scoring." - Larkin
Quotable II: "I think Dylan's played really good from the Minnesota game on and hasn't got rewarded with points, and that's a hard thing but he stayed with it. I think he's done a real good job of playing a 200-foot game. That's what's gonna make him a great player in this league. He's got to be a 200-foot player to be a great player. I think he understands that. He's a guy who can certainly produce offense. This was good for him to get rewarded a little bit. I think he's had chances and hasn't got rewarded." - Wings coach Jeff Blashill
Quotable III: "He's one of the hardest-working guys on our team. He's one of the first guys on the ice every single day for practice, and one of the last ones off. And by last one off, he's usually out there for at least a solid half hour after everyone is gone. As he continues to put in the work and the effort, I think we'll continue to see great things from Dylan. He's worked it so hard to being great at both ends of the ice. I think he's taken on a bigger role this year and I think he's embraced it." - Jimmy Howard
2. Evgeny Svechnikov: Svechnikov hadn't played more than 9:24 in any of the six games he played entering Tuesday night. Before the game, Blashill said Svechnikov had the tools and just had to play with confidence. At 9:57 of the second, Svechnikov was in the slot when he gathered a rebound and buried it for his first career NHL goal. Svechnikov was immediately mobbed at the bench after scoring. Martin Frk and Larkin assisted. Svechnikov did have a shootout winner in his first career game last April against the Ottawa Senators. Svechnikov finished with 13 shifts for 8:38, had four shots, a hit, a takeaway, a blocked shot and was plus-1.

Quotable: "Great bounce, had the good shift, lot of bounce, like I said, but tried to feed Frky and he shot it and it bounced right on my tape, tried to shoot again and it went in. Best feeling." - Svechnikov
Quotable II: "It was awesome. His big hockey smile was good. It was a special moment, I was glad to be on the ice with him and to see how pumped up he is, it was pretty cool." - Larkin
Quotable III: "I thought he played the way he's gonna have to play to be successful. He was heavy on the puck. Him and I talked about how can he be different than other players on our team? The one thing that I think he can do is be real heavy and be strong on the puck. He's a big, thick guy, he's got ability, so be heavy and strong. He doesn't want to get into a track meet up and down the sheet. He wants to be a guy who can spend time in the O-zone. I thought he did that to a large degree tonight, so that's a great step. We need more of that. Part of having a great half-court game is spending time in the O-zone. All they can do is get out and try to change and then you try to pounce on them off the change in transition." - Blashill
3. Petr Mrazek: Mrazek was looking forward to facing his former teammates for the first time and they were equally excited to see him. After stopping all 13 Detroit shots in the first period, Mrazek was off to a good start. Then Larkin scored at 6:08 of the second and Glendening whipped a shorthanded shot past him at 7:59, both of those coming from the right face-off dot. Svechnikov's rebound goal came at 9:57 of the second and Flyers coach Dave Hakstol elected to pull Mrazek at that point and replace him with Lyon. Mrazek allowed three goals on 19 shots, three on six shots in the second. The Wings played a tribute video for Mrazek midway through the first period.
Quotable: "Yeah, not the way I wanted to end the game like that. A good start, a good first period. After the first goal, Glenny went from the side, I should have had that second goal. We gave them momentum, we gave them three goals in the second period." - Mrazek
Quotable II: "Obviously, I feel bad for him. We played together for so long. We've gone through a lot together. At that instance for me, it's just continue to make saves at my end for the guys." - Howard
Quotable III: "Pete's a great kid. I certainly wish him luck, but when you get into the context of a game, you're trying to win a hockey game. To be honest with you, I didn't think much about it. I was just trying to get the next goal on whoever was in the net. Pete's a good kid and he'll rebound from that." - Blashill
