1. Mitch Callahan: Callahan, 25, is not going to make the Red Wings this season but that doesn't mean he can't have a good game this preseason.
Callahan, playing on a line with center Matt Lorito and Eric Tangradi, scored the first two goals of the game, the first on the power play at 11:35 of the first, and the second even-strength going to the net at 1:45 of the second.
Callahan was named first star.
Quotable: "It's always nice to get a contract first off but being the same team that drafted you kind of shows that they really haven't given up on me yet. I was pretty happy when I got the news that they were going to re-sign me." - Callahan
2. Goaltending: Both Jimmy Howard, who started, and Jared Coreau, who came in at 10:52 of the second period, performed well. Howard allowed just one goal on 15 shots, Garrett Wilson's tally at 10:16 of the second period. Coreau, coming off a scoreless 25-minute, 20-shot half in the Red-White Game in Traverse City, allowed just one goal on 18 shots, also by Wilson.
Quotable: "I thought both goalies were real good. I thought both goalies made more big saves then we'd like to have them make. The biggest thing with Jared is I thought he looked calm in the net. He let the puck come to him. He's learned to use his size really well and then he made the big save at the big moment with the pass across and got the leg out there for him. It was a good game for him." - Wings coach Jeff Blashill
3. Evgeny Svechnikov: Before the game, Blashill said he wanted to see Svechnikov, the Wings' first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, shoot the puck instead of passing too much. Svechnikov, who scored a goal in the Red-White Game, scored the Wings' third goal during a power play at 14:41 of the second.
Quotable: "I went up the ice and I got the speed and I should mention that I go in there and got a hell of a pass from Mike Green and just went in there into open space, went in on the goalie and tried to put it on net and it went in. I'm real happy." - Svechnikov
