“We are excited to present this exclusive event to Red Wings fans and wine tasting fans alike for the ninth year in a row,” said Steve Violetta, senior vice president of business affairs for the Red Wings. “Guests will not only have the chance to interact with the defending Stanley Cup champion team, but will also be supporting the ongoing charitable efforts of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. This entire evening is about giving back, and having a little fun while raising funds for local groups and causes.”
This annual event offers guests the opportunity to spend an evening with the Red Wings team for a night of wine tasting, fine liqueurs, a strolling buffet, great silent and live auctions and the chance to mingle with members of the current Red Wings team, alumni and other celebrities in attendance. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to tour the Red Wings locker room and have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup. This year’s event will take place on the ice surface of Joe Louis Arena where fans can experience the players’ view of the arena while enjoying some spectacular food and wine.
Since its inception the event has raised more than $850,000 for various charities including Children’s Hospital of Michigan and The Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
The Toast of Hockeytown will feature both a live and silent auction. Silent auction items at the event will include: autographed memorabilia from several NHL stars, autographed items from all Detroit professional sports teams and other unique non-sports related items. The auctions will also feature a wide array of items from the Red Wings including: one-of-a-kind memorabilia from the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs; game-worn autographed merchandise, and unique experience packages including the opportunity for a group to skate on the ice at Joe Louis Arena for an hour with hockey instruction by a member of the Red Wings staff.
The live auction will feature a professional framed team-signed jersey from the 2008 Stanley Cup championship team; a set of game-used autographed sticks from the entire current Red Wings team as well as the highly coveted opportunity for two people to travel with the team on Red Bird II to an away game later this season.
