– After a very slow start to the season, Tomas Tatar
has had one heck of a month, but an even better week.
The Red Wings’ forward was recognized as the second star in the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week, which ended Sunday.
“Tatar’s game is rounding out,” coach Mike Babcock said recently. “Tatar has a chance to be a real good player in the league if he keeps working and developing, taking care of the puck.”
Tatar tied for second in the league with four goals and five points, including two game-winning goals, to lead the Red Wings to two victories in three games. He opened the week with a pair of game-winners and multi-point performances in back-to-back games at Columbus and Winnipeg.
Tatar then scored for the third consecutive game to stretch his point streak to a career-long five games, at Toronto.
The 23-year-old Ilava, Slovakia, native has found the back of the net in three consecutive games for the second time in his NHL career. He first accomplished the feat last January.
Tatar is tied for the team lead in goals this season, tied for fourth with 12 points, and second with 53 shots on goal, in 20 games played.
Vancouver forward Jannik Hansen and Dallas forward Jamie Benn were named first and third stars of the week, respectively.
