Surprise, the Farr 30, based out of Little Traverse Yacht Club, finished second in the inaugural Pro Team Challenge Cup in the 86th sailing of the Bayview Mackinac Race.
The Surprise, owned by David Irish, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, flew the red and white colors of the Red Wings during the three-day race that took place from Port Huron and Mackinac Island in Lake Huron.
The Pro Team Challenge, sponsored by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, included all four major sports teams in Detroit, including the Lions (NFL), Pistons (NBA), and Tigers (MLB).
The yacht representing the Tigers, Epic, from West Bloomfield, Mich., was victorious with a time of 55 hours, 24 minutes.
Surprise was the second boat across the finish line at 57 hours, six minutes, followed by George (Pistons) at 58 minutes, nine minutes; and Rebel 3 (Lions) at 62 hours, 58 minutes.
The Tigers will host the Eric crew at an upcoming game at Comerica Park. The 12 crew members will receive their Pro Team Challenge award at the Bayview Mackinac Awards Dinner on Sept. 11.
