The Detroit Red Wings and The Salvation Army are pleased to announce the return of the coed STRIVE (Student Training for Integrity, Vitality & Education) Floor Hockey program starting the week of March 12 at six recreation centers throughout southeastern Michigan. This free, 12-week program is designed to offer youth ages 8-12 an opportunity to learn the basic skills of floor hockey in a fun, exciting atmosphere. More than 100 elementary aged children will receive a chance to experience the program, which culminates in a Championship Game this summer. Skills taught to participants will follow the educational curriculum of NHL Street.

"The Detroit Red Wings are thrilled to continue supporting The Salvation Army's STRIVE floor hockey program this year," said Kevin Brown, Director of Community Relations & Detroit Red Wings Foundation. "With the program growing to two additional locations, more children than ever will have an opportunity to experience the game of hockey - some for the first time ever - across Metro Detroit."
The Salvation Army's STRIVE Hockey program was relaunched in 2017 through support from the Detroit Red Wings' Red Wings for Red Kettles bell ringing event. The program will continue to focus on supporting the growth of floor hockey throughout the region as a way for more youth to learn the basics of hockey before hitting the ice.
"Our Salvation Army youth programs are dedicated to providing healthy activities for children that teach them positive life lessons such as teamwork and responsibility while having fun and building lifelong friendships," said Major Russell Sjogren. "The Detroit Red Wings STRIVE program continues to be a popular initiative that boys and girls look forward to every season."
This year, the program expands from four to six Salvation Army recreation centers in southeastern Michigan. Practice sessions take place each week, in addition to travel games at participating recreation centers. Registration is extremely limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since 2005, the Red Wings have raised more than $160,000 to benefit The Salvation Army. This past December, four groups of Red Wings players, personnel and alumni raised more than $16,000 for The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign during a two-hour span throughout Metro Detroit. The funds raised this season will support The Salvation Army's STRIVE Floor Hockey program, as well as other vital Salvation Army initiatives.
