by Alex DiFilippo / Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Riley Sheahan will appear at the Michigan Humane Society’s 10th annual Mega March for Animals on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Belle Isle State Park in Detroit to help raise funds and awareness for homeless pets in Michigan. The Red Wings forward will take photos with marchers and autograph the new 2015-16 Red Wings Pucks for Paws Pet Calendar, which features several Red Wings players either with their own pets or a pet from the Michigan Humane Society.

Red Wings Pucks for Paws Pet Calendars can be purchased at the Mega March for $20 and Sheahan will autograph the calendar for an additional donation of $10. Pucks for Paws Calendars can also be purchased for $20 during the Red Wings final home preseason game on Friday, Oct. 2 against Toronto. The calendars can also be purchased for $20 online at DetroitRedWings.com/PucksForPaws.

Funds raised from the Mega March for Animals are critical to helping the Michigan Humane Society find homes for animals in need. Supporters of the 2014 Mega March raised enough funds to change the lives of more than 2,800 animals in need throughout Michigan. Sheahan will continue to support homeless animals in Michigan this season through his ‘Riley’s Rescues’ program. The Red Wings forward will donate $100 for every point he records during the 2015-16 season to the Michigan Humane Society’s emergency rescue program. Sheahan recorded 36 points (13-23-36) during the 2014-15 campaign, leading to a donation of $3,600 that allowed the Michigan Humane Society to assist 18 pets from the point of rescue to when the pet was available for adoption. Additionally, Sheahan personally adopted a puppy from the Michigan Humane Society at the conclusion of last season.

Sheahan will also continue his visits to the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit every month to take a photo with a pet available for adoption that the Red Wings will post on social media. The person who adopts that particular pet will receive a goody bag from the Red Wings with an autographed 8”x10” photo of Sheahan.
