DETROIT - General Manager Ken Holland today announced that the Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Mikael Samuelsson to a one-year contract.
In keeping with club policy, additional terms of the contract were not available.
Samuelsson (28, 6-1, 205) was originally drafted by San Jose in the fifth round (145th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He has logged NHL games for San Jose, NY Rangers, Pittsburgh and Florida.
All totaled, Samuellson has appeared in 188 NHL games, scoring 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points. He also played parts of two seasons in the AHL with Kentucky and Hartford averaging over a point per game (74 GP, 35-52--87, +31).
Samuellson spent the majority of 2004-05 playing for Sodertalje of the Swedish Elite League where he scored 20 points in 29 games (7-13--20) and six points in 10 playoff games (3-3--6).
