DETROIT -The Detroit Red Wings today assigned defenseman Dan Renouf to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Renouf made his NHL debut with the Red Wings on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes and recorded one shot on goal and three hits in 13:35 time on ice. The 22-year-old defenseman was signed by the Red Wings as a free agent on March 10, 2016 and has spent his first professional season with the Griffins, logging 15 points (3-12-15), a plus-15 rating and 59 penalty minutes in 58 games. The Pickering, Ontario, native leads Grand Rapids in penalty minutes and is tied for third on the team - and for seventh among AHL rookies - in plus-minus. Renouf also appeared in six games with the Griffins in 2015-16 following the conclusion of his junior year at the University of Maine, picking up one assist and five penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 209-lb., defenseman spent three seasons with Hockey East's Maine Black Bears from 2013-16 prior to turning pro. In 111 collegiate games, Renouf notched 38 points (10-28-38), a plus-14 rating and 72 penalty minutes. He capped off his Maine career in 2015-16 by leading the team's defensemen with 15 points (6-9-15) in 38 games. Renouf was honored with the Maine Scholar-Athlete Award following his sophomore season in 2014-15 and was also named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team as a freshman in 2013-14. Before his collegiate career, Renouf spent two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League. In 115 USHL games from 2011-13, he registered 43 points (11-32-43), a plus-35 rating and 136 penalty minutes.
