Detroit is looking to rebound from a
3-2 home loss Monday to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Despite the final score, head coach Derek Lalonde said he was impressed with his club's effort.
"There were some positives there," Lalonde said. "I stress to the guys 'process over outcome.' Were we great? No. Were we good? Did we improve in some things? Is that a game that I think we win more times than not? Yes. That's what I mean by process over outcome."

Lalonde specifically commended Detroit's "care level."
"Coming into the room afterward, guys were dejected," Lalonde said. "Like playoff-loss dejected. I almost had to catch myself before I addressed them. To me, that's a positive."
As the Red Wings coaching staff continues using the eight-game preseason slate as an evaluation tool, Lalonde stressed the importance of balancing expectations.

"As a coach, I don't think we're ever completely where we wanna be," Lalonde said. "For the most part, we're seeing some good things. I told the guys that I have to check myself sometimes. I leave games, or during games, I'm usually optimistic about the way we played. Even in Tampa, I would need (head coach) Jon Cooper or (assistant coach) Jeff Halpern to set me straight at times."

Lalonde updates Copp's status

Andrew Copp (abdominal surgery) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, and according to Lalonde, the 28-year-old forward continues to make progress in his recovery.
"The goal all along has been Game 1," Lalonde said about Copp's Red Wings debut. "We're still looking at that goal. A step in the right direction. He went from practicing as an extra, practicing on a line and now practicing where we probably see him fitting in opening the season."
Copp, who signed a five-year deal with Detroit on July 13, split last season between the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets, setting career-highs in goals (21), assists (32) and points (53).
