DETROIT -The Detroit Red Wings are hosting their annual Toys for Tots collection drive on Friday, Dec. 9, as the Red Wings take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:30 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys (no stuffed animals) with them to the game to benefit the Toys for Tots program.
Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will be on hand at each entrance of Joe Louis Arena to collect toys, which will then be distributed to needy children throughout Metro Detroit during the holidays. Monetary donations will be accepted and will be used to purchase additional toys for children in need.
Fans are encouraged to bring toys suitable for children ages one to 12. Toys should cost no more than $30 to ensure all children receive comparable items.
Last season, Red Wings fans and staff donated more than 500 toys and more than $5,300 during the team's Toys for Tots collection drive.

About Toys for Tots:
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
