DETROIT -The Detroit Red Wings today signed defenseman Antti Tuomisto to a two-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Tuomisto, 22, spent the entire 2022-23 season with TPS in Finland's SM-Liiga, recording 20 points (5-15-20) and 20 penalty minutes in 60 regular-season games. His 20 points were the most of any defenseman 23 years of age or younger in Finland's top professional league. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound blueliner also picked up two assists and six penalty minutes in three postseason contests. Additionally, Tuomisto logged one assist and two penalty minutes in five Champions Hockey League games with TPS this season. Originally selected by the Red Wings in the second round (35th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Tuomisto played two seasons at the University of Denver from 2020-22, collecting 20 points (3-17-20), a plus-18 rating and 44 penalty minutes in 59 games. He helped the Pioneers win the 2022 NCAA Division I championship as a sophomore along with Detroit prospects Shai Buium (36th overall/2021) and Carter Mazur (70th overall/2021).
A native of Pori, Finland, Tuomisto developed in his hometown with Assat's youth system prior to his collegiate career. Tuomisto compiled 87 points (25-62-87) and 99 penalty minutes in 111 games at the under-20 level from 2018-20, earning the Teemu Selanne Award as the under-20 league's best player and the Reijo Ruotsalainen Award as the under-20 circuit's top defenseman following the 2019-20 campaign. Tuomisto previously tallied 58 points (13-45-58) and 80 penalty minutes in 48 games the under-18 level, in addition to 49 points (7-42-49) and 45 penalty minutes in 59 games at the under-16 level. On the international stage, Tuomisto represented Finland at the 2019 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, notching two assists and 29 penalty minutes in five games. He also made five appearances for his country at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
