DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned defenseman Gleason Fournier to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
A native of Rimouski, Quebec, Fournier has appeared in 11 games with the Griffins this season, recording no points and a plus-three rating. The 22-year-old blueliner has played 54 games with Grand Rapids since 2011-12, notching 10 points (2-8-10) and 37 penalty minutes, in addition to one assist and two penalty minutes in six Calder Cup Playoff games last season. Fournier has also skated in 71 career games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, posting 19 points (3-16-19) and 44 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the third round (90th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 191-lb., defenseman recorded 133 points (31-102-133) in 237 games with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic from 2007-11.
