DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today recalled center Riley Sheahan from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Sheahan has skated in 28 games with the Griffins this season, recording 18 points (8-10-18) and 10 penalty minutes. He appeared in four games with Detroit earlier this season, picking up his first two NHL points with a pair of assists on Dec. 21 at Toronto. A first-round pick of Detroit (21st overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Sheahan helped Grand Rapids win the AHL’s Calder Cup in 2012-13, tallying 36 points (16-20-36) in 72 regular-season games, while tying for the rookie scoring lead in the postseason with 16 points (3-13-16) in 24 games.

Prior to turning pro, Sheahan spent three seasons at the University of Notre Dame. In 114 career collegiate games, he recorded 64 points (20-44-64).
