Red Wings lose Holmstrom to leg injury

by Staff Writer / Detroit Red Wings
Detroit forward Tomas Holmstrom injured his left leg in the first period of Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings and didn't return.

Holmstrom returned to Detroit's lineup on Tuesday at San Jose after missing 13 games with a broken left foot. He played most of the first period against the Kings before leaving the bench late in the period.

The 13-year veteran has 15 goals and eight assists in 45 games this season, scoring his 200th career goal in December. He is slated to play in his second Olympics with Sweden after winning a gold medal in Turin in 2006.

Two other Detroit forwards, Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves, also left in the third period and didn't return.

"I hope none of these guys is hurt too badly," coach Mike Babcock said.
