Red Wings extend Kindl's contract

DETROIT -- The Red Wings  signed defenseman Jakub Kindl to a three-year contract extension, which begins after the 2009-10 season.

Kindl, 22, was drafted by the Wings in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft with the 19th overall pick. He tallied three goals and 14 assists as well as a minus-34 rating in his first pro season with the Granf Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings' American Hockey League affiliate.

During his sophomore campaign, Kindl recorded six goals and 27 assists with a minus-14 in 78 games.
