DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings announced today the details surrounding the celebration of the 25th consecutive season that the team has qualified for the Stanley Cup® Playoffs. The Red Wings streak of 25-straight playoff appearances (1990-91 – present) is the longest active streak in all of North American major professional sports and is tied for the third longest of its kind in NHL history.
With social media campaigns, viewing parties, contests and exclusive merchandise, Red Wings fans can connect and be a part of the celebration as the team embarks on its historic 25th straight playoff run with the goal of claiming the organization’s 12th Stanley Cup® Championship.

The Red Wings will host a “Playoff Central” website at www.DetroitRedWings.com/PlayoffCentral to serve as the online hub for Red Wings fans to show their support for the team and partake in numerous digital campaigns and contests. Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #25Straight on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for a chance to see their photo highlighted at “Playoff Central.” In addition, lucky fans who use #25Straight will have an opportunity to see their Tweet or photo on digital advertisements throughout the Metro Detroit area, as new fan photos will populate daily on the #25Straight billboards and advertisements.
Returning this year, Red Wings fans can create custom Red Wings memes through a ‘Meme Generator’ and share throughout their personal social media channels. “Playoff Central” will also offer free downloads where fans can get #25Straight social media graphics for all their favorite Red Wings players, and contests for fans to enter to win limited edition “25” T-shirts.
RED WINGS SNAPCHAT GEARS UP FOR THE PLAYOFFS
Fans are encouraged to follow “officialdrw” on Snapchat during the Red Wings playoff run for behind-the-scenes photos, videos and exclusive contests. Game 1 on Wednesday, April 13 in Tampa Bay will be featured as a Snapchat Live Story, allowing fans throughout the world to submit Snaps for a chance to be highlighted on the Live Story. The Red Wings Snapchat will also have a new Geofilter available for fans at The Joe or surrounding areas during Red Wings home playoff games to use in Snaps to celebrate the team’s historic playoff streak.
OFFICIAL RED WINGS VIEWING PARTIES START TONIGHT
Red Wings Official Viewing Parties are set to take place while the team is on the road in Tampa Bay for the first two games in the opening round of the Stanley Cup® Playoffs. The Viewing Parties will give fans an opportunity to cheer on the team with hundreds of their fellow fans, win great Red Wings prizes and meet Red Wings Alumni. The Viewing Party for Game 1 will be hosted at Ciccarelli’s Sports Bar in Shelby Township tonight, April 13 at 7 p.m., with alumni Darren McCarty and Dino Ciccarelli, and at Applebee’s in Northville for Game 2 on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m., with alumni Jason Woolley and Brent Fedyk. BEARD-A-THON® ENCOURAGES FANS TO GROW PLAYOFF BEARDS FOR CHARITY
Fans are invited to join Red Wings players in growing out their playoff beards as part of the annual Beard-A-Thon® to benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. Participating fans are encouraged to share beard progress pictures online and have friends and family support the cause by donating throughout the playoffs. JLA STAIRS, CENTER ICE TO FEATURE “25” LOGO; AL THE OCTOPUS TO BE RAISED TO THE ROOF OF THE JOE ON THURSDAY
Starting on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the Red Wings will transform both sets of stairs leading up to the East and West Entrance of Joe Louis Arena. The stairs will be decorated with the large “25” logo that features names of the players who donned the “Winged Wheel” during the 25-year playoff streak. The “25” logo will also be present at center ice. Additionally, the giant ‘Al the Octopus’ will be placed atop The Joe on Thursday near the Gordie Howe Entrance.
RALLY TOWEL GIVEAWAYS FOR FIRST ROUND HOME PLAYOFF GAMES
All first round home playoff games at Joe Louis Arena will feature a giveaway for fans in attendance to create an exciting environment within The Joe. The Red Wings will issue 20,000 white rally towels with the “25” logo to fans in attendance for all first round home playoff games. MotorCity Casino Hotel will sponsor rally towels for Home Game 1, Coke Zero and Meijer will sponsor the rally towels for Home Game 2 and Busch’s Fresh Food Market and Coke Zero will sponsor the rally towels for Home Game 3, if necessary.

Red Wings fans can take home a piece of playoff history by purchasing a commemorative “25” pin, T-shirt or puck at Joe Louis Arena merchandise stands during Red Wings home playoff games and at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (1845 E. Big Beaver Rd.). Additional Stanley Cup® Playoffs merchandise, such as T-shirts, hats and pucks, will be available at Hockeytown Authentics and The Joe, while supplies last.
