It's safe to say that collective mindset was displayed in their 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks, which snapped the Red Wings' six-game winless streak.
"Every game you're trying to win and do your best," said Kubalik, who scored the game-winner with 4:07 remaining in the third period. "But sometimes, it's not going the right way. I thought the last couple games, they were there but we just didn't take them. Today, we really pushed ourselves to do everything to make it happen. I'm very happy that we did."
After Chicago scored twice in a span of just 2:07 mid-way through the first period, Detroit had a golden opportunity to get back within one late in the same frame when Dylan Larkin was awarded a penalty shot. However, the Red Wings captain was stopped by Blackhawks goalie Alex Stalock.
Detroit would cut its deficit, 2-1, early in the second on an even-strength goal from Jake Walman before Larkin's power-play tally at 18:34 tied the game. The Blackhawks pulled ahead again in final frame, but Lucas Raymond knotted the score at three apiece with 7:24 to play in the contest, and Kubalik's 18th goal of the season gave the Red Wings their first lead of the night - one the club didn't relinquish.
Ville Husso made 17 saves for Detroit, which improved to 29-26-9 (67 points) overall. With the loss, Chicago fell to 22-37-5 (49 points).
"We stuck with it," said Alex Chiasson, who recorded two assists for his first points with the Red Wings. "Found the next one and kept building. That's why you play the game for 60 minutes."
Robby Fabbri (lower-body) exited down the tunnel late in the first period and did not return after taking a hit along the boards.
"We'll know more tomorrow," Detroit head coach Derek Lalonde said about Fabbri. "Initially, he went and tried to skate on the other sheet (BELFOR Training Center), but he couldn't go."
