The Detroit Red Wings today assigned defenseman Xavier Ouellet
to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Ouellet has appeared in 25 games for the Red Wings over the past two seasons, totaling three points (2-1-3), a plus-four rating and four penalty minutes. The Bayonne, France, native has also appeared in 24 games with the Griffins this season, notching eight points (1-7-8), a plus-seven rating and 18 penalty minutes and was named to the AHL’s Western Conference All-Star Team. In 94 career AHL games, Ouellet has registered 25 points (5-20-25), a plus-10 rating and 40 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (48th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet skated in 223 games with the QMJHL’s Montreal Juniors and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada from 2009-13, recording 160 points (41-119-160) and capturing a spot on the QMJHL First All-Star Team in back-to-back seasons (2012 and 2013). He also represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, picking up three points (1-2-3) in six games.
