Red Wings announce 2015-16 schedule

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today announced their 2015-16 schedule for the team’s 90th year in the National Hockey League. The schedule features a fan-friendly home slate of 20 weekend games (nine Fridays, five Saturdays, six Sundays) at Joe Louis Arena. Their schedule for the upcoming 2015-16 season in the National Hockey League.

The puck drops on the regular season with an exciting October lineup featuring an Opening Night Original Six matchup against former head coach Mike Babcock and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, Oct. 9 at Joe Louis Arena. Detroit will host all Original Six opponents at least once at The Joe and will play a total of 17 games against the Original Six, including four games each against Atlantic Division rivals Toronto, the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens.

Through the first two months of the season, the Red Wings will play at home on six of the eight Friday nights in October and November. The month of November itself features a home-heavy schedule with the Red Wings facing off in nine games at Joe Louis Arena, culminating in the longest homestand of the season, a six-game stretch from Nov. 25-Dec. 5.

Highlights from the remainder of the schedule include the Red Wings’ participation in the 2016 NHL Stadium Series game against the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 27 at Coors Field in Denver, a home-and-home series against the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks (Mar. 2 at Joe Louis Arena, Mar. 6 at United Center), the Wings’ traditional Thanksgiving Eve game on Nov. 25 vs. Boston and the annual New Year’s Eve game on Dec. 31 vs. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Detroit will finish the 2015-16 campaign with 14 of their last 15 games against Eastern Conference opponents as the team pushes for a 25th consecutive postseason appearance.
