by Alex DiFilippo / Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today announced the promotional schedule and theme nights for the upcoming “Farewell Season at The Joe.” Of 41 regular-season home games during the 2016-17 season, the Red Wings will offer a total of 23 exciting giveaways to fans in attendance. Fans will have the opportunity to collect Red Wings themed items, along with replica items to commemorate Joe Louis Arena and the memories held within the iconic venue before the team moves to Little Caesars Arena for the 2017-18 season.

Highlighting the list of giveaways and theme nights are four Stanley Cup Championship Celebrations to honor the Red Wings championship runs during the team’s tenure at Joe Louis Arena. The Championship Celebrations will feature members of each team reunited at The Joe for interviews and video tributes throughout the night to commemorate each championship. The Red Wings will host the celebration for the 1997 Championship on Dec. 27 vs. Buffalo; the 1998 Championship on Jan. 18 vs. Boston; the 2002 Championship on Feb. 7 vs. Columbus; and the 2008 Championship on March 20 vs. Buffalo. The first 5,000 fans in attendance for the 1997 Championship Celebration will receive Locker Room Hats styled similar to the widely-popular Stanley Cup Championship black and suede hats, while commemorative posters will be issued to the first 5,000 fans in attendance for the 1998, 2002 and 2008 Championship Celebrations.

Numerous replica giveaways are also scheduled throughout the season to give fans an opportunity to take a piece of Joe Louis Arena history home. Three Statue Replica Nights will be held to commemorate the statues of Red Wings legends that greet fans at the Gordie Howe Entrance. Gordie Howe Statue Replicas will be issued to fans on Nov. 4 vs. Winnipeg; Ted Lindsay Statue Replicas on Nov. 29 vs. Dallas; and Alex Delvecchio Statue Replicas on Feb. 21 vs. the N.Y. Islanders. The Statue Replicas measure six inches tall and are available to the first 5,000 fans in attendance at each game, presented by DMC.

Red Wings fans can transform their home or office to resemble the rafters of The Joe by collecting a pair of Banner Wall Flag giveaways, each measuring nearly 10 feet tall by two feet wide. The first 5,000 fans in attendance on Dec. 15 vs. Los Angeles will be issued a Championship Banner Flag, depicting all 11 Stanley Cup Championship banners, while the first 5,000 fans in attendance on Jan. 31 vs. New Jersey can collect a Retired Jerseys Flag, displaying all seven retired jerseys hanging above the ice at The Joe.

Red Wings fans can add a Dylan Larkin Bobblehead to their collection on Oct. 25 against Carolina, courtesy of Coca-Cola. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will take home the bobblehead, which depicts a goal celebration from the Waterford, Mich., native.
