Red Wings prospect Trevor Parkes was named the ECHL player of the week.
A right wing for the Toledo Walleye, Parkes produced six goals and five assists in helping the ECHL team to a 1-1-2 mark in four games last week.
The 21-year-old started the week with a three-point night, scoring twice with an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss at Fort Wayne on Tuesday. He added an assist in a 6-3 loss at Evansville on Thursday; scored three goals and added an assist in a 7-1 win against Evansville on Saturday; and tallied three points in a 5-4 overtime loss against Trenton on Sunday.
The native of Fort Erie, Ontario, has 15 points in seven games with the Walleye this season. He’s also collected three goals and six assists in 34 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Prior to turning professional, the 6-foot-2, 202-pounder led the Montreal Juniors with 33 goals in 2010-11. He also led the Juniors with 12 power-play goals that season and ranked 15th in the QMJHL in goal-scoring.
On behalf of Parkes, a case of pucks will be donated to a Toledo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 27,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
