DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings announced today the return of the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ playoff campaign to encourage fans to connect and cheer on the Red Wings as the team embarks on its historic 24th straight playoff run.

Building off the success of last year’s ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ campaign, which garnered more than 20 million impressions through Red Wings social media, the multi-platform campaign returns to Detroit for the third year with a revamped look and even more ways for fans to “Join the Movement” and interact with each other and the team.

During Detroit’s journey through the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Red Wings fans can join the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ movement by logging on to OctopiHockeytown.com, powered by MotorCity Casino Hotel. The website serves as the online hub for fans to show their support for the team and partake in numerous digital campaigns and contests.

Fans are once again encouraged to use the hashtag #OctopiHockeytown on Twitter and Instagram for a chance to see their message on OctopiHockeytown.com. Lucky fans will once again have an opportunity to see their Tweet or photo on digital advertisements across the Metro Detroit area, as new fan photos will populate daily on the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ billboards and advertisements.

OctopiHockeytown.com hosts interactive contests and encourages fans to join the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ movement by sharing their passion for the Red Wings through social media. The website provides several options for fans to change their cover photo on Facebook and avatar on Twitter to support the team and join the movement.

Several new aspects highlight this year’s ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ campaign, including the opportunity for fans to create custom Red Wings memes through a ‘Meme Generator’ and share through social media. In addition, the Red Wings have created custom playoff emojis available to download and share with friends. Available emojis include a purple octopus, the Winged Wheel, skates, helmets, pucks, hockey sticks and many more – all of which are available for download at OctopiHockeytown.com.

OctopiHockeytown.com will host contests to give away newly-designed, white ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ T-shirts every day. Black ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ T-shirts will be available for purchase at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and at Joe Louis Arena merchandise stands.

All first round home playoff games at Joe Louis Arena will feature a giveaway for fans in attendance to create an exciting environment within The Joe. Courtesy of MotorCity Casino Hotel, the Red Wings will issue 20,000 white rally towels to fans in attendance for all first round home playoff games.

In conjunction with the launch of the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ campaign, the Red Wings will transform both sets of stairs leading up to the East and West Entrance of Joe Louis Arena. This week, the stairs will be decorated with the ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ logo in the center and octopus tentacles sprawling throughout the width of the stairs. The giant ‘Al the Octopus’ will also be placed atop The Joe on Tuesday.

Red Wings fans can ‘Octopi’ the Official Red Wings Viewing Parties and cheer on the team with hundreds of their fellow fans while the team is on the road in Tampa Bay for the first two games in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Viewing Party for Game 1 will be hosted at Ciccarelli’s Sports Bar in Shelby Township on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. and at Hockeytown Café in Detroit for Game 2 on Saturday, April 18 at 2:30 p.m. For more information on the Red Wings Official Viewing Parties, click here.
