Worlds: Nyquist hat trick sparks Sweden victory

Detroit Red Wings right wing Gustav Nyquist had three goals and an assist to help lead Sweden to a 7-3 victory against Kazakhstan in preliminary-round play of Group A in the 2016 IIHF World Championship at the Ice Palace in Moscow on Wednesday.
Forward Alex Wennberg (Columbus Blue Jackets) had a goal and three assists, and defenseman Adam Larsson (New Jersey Devils) and forward Linus Klasen each had a goal and an assist for Sweden.

Sweden goaltender Viktor Fasth made 23 saves.
Sweden is second in Group A with two regulation wins, one overtime win and one loss (eight points). The Czech Republic is first with eight points on two regulation wins and one overtime win in three games.
Each team received three points for a regulation win.

Finland 3, Hungary 0: Goaltender Juuse Saros (Nashville Predators) made 13 saves to help Finland remain unbeaten in preliminary round play of Group B at Yubileiny Arena in St. Petersburg.
Finland has won all four games of the tournament in regulation and is first in Group B with 12 points. Canada has three regulation wins in as many games and is second with nine points.
Mikko Koivu (Minnesota Wild), Aleksander Barkov (Florida Panthers) and Atte Ohtamaa scored, and Leo Komarov (Toronto Maple Leafs) had two assists. Patrik Laine, No. 2 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of international skaters eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, had an assist and took six shots on goal.
Laine, 18, is tied for the World Championship tournament lead with teammate Mikael Granlund (Minnesota Wild) with seven points (four goals, three assists).

Switzerland 5, Latvia 4: Eric Blum scored an unassisted goal with 1:29 remaining in the third period to give Switzerland the win in preliminary round play of Group A at the Ice Palace in Moscow.
Forward Nino Niederreiter (Minnesota Wild) scored two goals, forward Sven Andrighetto (Montreal Canadiens) had a goal and two assists and defenseman Raphael Diaz (New York Rangers) had two assists for Switzerland. Mikelis Redlihs scored two goals for Latvia.
Belarus 4, Slovakia 2: Kirill Gotovets (Chicago Blackhawks), Artur Gavrus (New Jersey Devils), Andrei Stepanov and Charles Linglet scored in the third period when Belarus overcame a 2-0 deficit in the preliminary round of Group B at Yubileiny Arena in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Andrej Sekera (Edmonton Oilers) and Tomas Jurco (Detroit Red Wings) each scored in the second when Slovakia took a 2-0 lead.
