DETROIT -- For the 11th year, the Detroit Red Wings are teaming up with Detroit Receiving Hospital Burn Center, the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union, and the Southeast Michigan Fire Chiefs to help prevent frostbite this winter with the "Motor City Mitten Madness" clothing collection.
The collection will take place at Red Wing games on January 12 and 14 at Joe Louis Arena. Fans attending Detroit's home games on those days against the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers are asked to bring clean, new and used blankets, gloves, hats, scarves and other winter wear items to collection bins at Joe Louis Arena. The clothing will be distributed to Detroit area shelters and warming centers to aid in the prevention of frostbite among the homeless.
The event will also include an autograph signing from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11th at Hockeytown Cafe in downtown Detroit. Red Wing Kirk Maltby will sign autographs for fans who bring new or gently worn winter wear items such as mittens, hats and scarves or winter blankets.
Each donor at the three games will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Red Wings merchandise autographed by Maltby. One winner will be announced at each game and must be present to win.
