MSU defeated tournament hosts Michigan Tech, 3-1, in Thursday’s first semifinal matchup to advance to the title game. The Spartans are looking for their 13th GLI championship.
Spartans goaltender Drew Palmisano made 45 saves on 46 shots to lead his team to a hard-fought win. The Spartans have appeared in 11 of the last 14 GLI finals, most recently winning the MacInnes Cup in 2009.
The Wolverines upset Boston College (No. 3) in the other semifinal showdown with a 4-2 victory.
With the game tied at two in the second period, junior forward A.J. Treais scored in transition to give the Wolverines a lead that they would not relinquish in securing a spot in the GLI final.
UM will be looking to repeat as MacInnes Cup champs after winning the title last year. Michigan Tech will face BC in the tournament’s third-place game at 4 p.m. on Friday at The Joe.
