DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned goaltender Tom McCollum to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and removed goaltender Jimmy Howard from injured reserve.
McCollum, 25, has appeared in 16 games for the Griffins this season, posting a 5-8-3 record, a 2.57 goals-against average and a 0.903 save percentage. The sixth-year Griffin has appeared in 175 games with the team since 2009-10 and has compiled a 74-75-13 record, a 2.91 goals-against average, a 0.901 save percentage and five shutouts. He enjoyed his best professional season with Grand Rapids in 2013-14, ranking fourth in the AHL with a 2.30 goals-against average and setting career bests in that category as well as wins (24) and save percentage (0.922). Originally drafted by Detroit with the final pick (30th overall) of the first round in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, McCollum appeared in one NHL game during the 2010-11 campaign, making his NHL debut in a relief effort on March 30, 2011 vs. St. Louis.
