DETROIT – The Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club wrapped up one of its most memorable seasons to date, both on and off the ice. The boys and girls hockey program had nine teams in the 12 state finals, capturing a total of six state titles – the most ever in the club’s 48-year history. In addition, the program sent four teams from the six eligible age groups to compete for national championships.
Off the ice, 101 players out of a possible 180 were recognized as Academic Achievers by the High Performance Hockey League (HPHL) for recording a 3.5 GPA or above throughout the season. Additionally, 11 players are taking their playing career to the next level and have made college commitments.
“We are extremely proud of our teams and players this past season,” said Darren Eliot, Director of Little Caesars Amateur Hockey. “The commitment from Little Caesars Enterprises and the Detroit Red Wings organization makes being a part of Little Caesars Hockey special. Their support is the foundation for so much of our team accomplishments and individual achievements.”
“The partnership with the Red Wings allows our players to grow and develop both as hockey players and as young men and young women,” said Kris Draper, Red Wings Assistant to the General Manager and Head Coach of the Little Caesars Bantam U13 Boys team that won the state title for the fourth-straight season. “It’s extremely rewarding to be a part of Little Caesars Hockey, and we look forward to continued success and growth in the program next season.”
Below is a list of additional achievements from the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Clubs this season:
•Nine of the 12 total age groups made the State Final
•Six teams won State Titles (12U Girls, 16U Girls, Squirt 10U Boys, PeeWee Minor 11U Boys, Bantam Minor 13U Boys and Midget Minor 15U Boys)
•Four teams qualified for Nationals (16U Girls, 14U Girls, Bantam Major 14U Boys and Midget Minor 16U Boys)
•Bantam Major 14U Boys were defeated in overtime, 3-2, in the National Semi-Finals
•14U Girls and Midget Minor 16U Boys emerged from Pool Play, making the Quarter Final Round
•101 of the 180 eligible players were recognized by the HPHL as Academic Achievers for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher
•11 players made college commitments
