DETROIT – The Red Wings today recalled right wing Tomas Jurco from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Jurco will join the team as they travel to take on the New York Rangers on Thursday at 7 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket).

Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (35th overall) of the 2011 NHL draft, Jurco debuted for the Red Wings on Dec. 15 vs. Tampa Bay and tallied his first NHL goal on Dec. 17 vs. Anaheim. The 21-year-old forward has posted three points (2-1-3) in seven total NHL games. A native of Kosice, Slovakia, Jurco has also appeared in 32 games with Grand Rapids, recording a team-best 32 points (13-19-32). He has five points (2-3-5) in six games with the Griffins since rejoining the team on Dec. 31.
In 2012-13, Jurco helped Grand Rapids win the AHL’s Calder Cup, registering 28 points (14-14-28) in 74 regular-season games and 14 points (8-6-14) in 24 playoff games. It marked the third straight season that Jurco won a championship, helping the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs to back-to-back President’s Cups in 2011 and 2012, along with a CHL Memorial Cup title in 2011.
