DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings today announced that 18-year-old forward Tomas Jurco has been reassigned to his Canadian Hockey League club, the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL). Following this move, Detroit now has 55 players remaining in training camp.
A native of Košice, Slovakia, Jurco was the Red Wings’ first selection (2nd Round, 35th Overall) at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound winger recorded 56 points (31G-25) in 60 games played for the Sea Dogs last season, adding 18 points (6G-12A) in 19 President’s Cup playoff games and five points (4G-1A) in four MasterCard Memorial Cup contests in helping Saint John capture both a league and national championship. Jurco also skated with Team Slovakia at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championships, scoring one goal in six appearances for the tournament’s eighth-place-finishers.
The Red Wings’ exhibition schedule continues on Sunday, September 25 when the Chicago Blackhawks pay a visit to the Motor City for a 5:00 p.m. matchup with their Central Division rivals. Tickets to this pre-season tilt are available at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office (313-396-7575), all Ticketmaster (800-745-3000) outlets, and online at DetroitRedWings.com.
