TAMPA, Fla. -- Jiri Hudler
scored three goals and Joey MacDonald
made 32 saves to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 in a preseason game Thursday night.
Hudler completed his hat trick with a breakaway goal to put the Red Wings ahead 3-0 with 14:37 left in the third period. Pavel Datsyuk
assisted on Hudler's goals. Dan Cleary finished the scoring for Detroit with a short-handed, empty net goal with one second remaining.
MacDonald stopped Vincent Lecavalier during a 2-on-1 break three-minutes after Tampa Bay pulled within 3-1 on Tim Taylor's goal six-minutes into the third.
Hudler put Detroit ahead 1-0 on a power-play goal at 11:57 of the second. He then made it 2-0 with 1:55 left in the period. Both goals came from the low right-circle.
The list of Red Wings' not making the trip included goalies Dominik Hasek and Chris Osgood, defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom
, Chris Chelios and Mathieu Schneider, and forwards Robert Lang, Henrik Zetterberg
and Tomas Holmstrom
The Lightning got 25 saves from Marc Denis. Tampa Bay played without forwards Ruslan Fedotenko (hip) and Rob DiMaio (concussion).
