For the second time in five weeks, the Red Wings have a recipient of the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week award.

Wings forward Marian Hossa was named Second Star for the week ending Feb. 8. He shared the league-lead in scoring last week with seven points (six goals, one assist) while helping the Wings to four straight victories and moving within two-points of Western Conference-leading San Jose.

Besides Hossa, the league awarded the weekly First Star to Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick and Third Star to Washington defenseman Mike Green.

Last week, Hossa had back-to-back two-goal performances helping the Wings in a 4-3 shootout win over St. Louis (Feb. 2) and a 5-4 win against Phoenix (Feb. 4). He also registered the game-winning goal – his fifth this season – with an assist in an 8-3 win over Edmonton (Feb. 7).

Hossa closed out the week by returning to Pittsburgh on Sunday and scoring his 30th goal of the season on a nifty backhand shot from the slot in a 3-0 win over his former teammates. It is the seventh time that Hossa has reached the 30-goal plateau in the last eight seasons.

He has 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in the last nine games, and leads the Wings in scoring and is second behind Pavel Datsyuk with 55 points.

Hossa is the third Red Wings’ player since January to be recognized with the league’s weekly award, joining Datsyuk (Jan. 19) and Brian Rafalski (Jan. 5).

Hossa was named Third Star earlier this season when he finished tied for second in league-scoring with six-points for the week ending Oct. 26.
