DETROIT -- Red Wings general manager Ken Holland announced that the club has re-signed forward Darren Helm to a two-year contract.
Helm, 23, was originally a fifth-round pick (132nd overall) of the Red Wings in 2005. Last year marked his first full NHL season, playing in 75 games, totalling 11 goals and 13 assists. He led the Wings in shorthanded goals with three and led all Detroit forwards with 188 hits.
A mainstay in the Red Wings’ post-season runs over the past three Stanley Cup playoffs, Helm has 53 career playoff games on his resume, more than half of his NHL regular-season total of 98 games.
