Haydar, Oulahen sign one-year deals

DETROIT -- Red Wings Executive Vice President and general manager Ken Holland today announced the team has signed forwards Darren Haydar and Ryan Oulahen to one-year contracts. In keeping with club policy, additional terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Haydar, 28, spent the last two seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers and its AHL affiliate the Chicago Wolves. During the 2007-08 season, Haydar collected 8 points (1-7—8) in 16 games with the Thrashers and 58 points (19-39—58) with the Wolves, where he ranked fourth in scoring during the 2008 Calder Cup playoffs.

Haydar also played for the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL, 2002-06), Nashville Predators (2002-03) and the University of New Hampshire (NCAA, 1998-02).

Completing the 2007-08 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Oulahen, 23, played in 75 regular-season games scoring 30 points (14-16—30). During his three-season run with the Griffins, Oulahen acquired 76 points (34-42—76) over 229 games played.

Drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth round (164th overall) of the 2003 draft, Oulahen played one season with the Newmarket Hurricanes (OPJHL) and three seasons with the Brampton Battalion (OHL).
