Final Meijer Kids Night is Friday

by Rick Bowness / Detroit Red Wings
DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to complete a sweep of their four-game season series with the Edmonton Oilers when they welcome central Alberta’s NHL squad to the Motor City for a Friday night showdown at Joe Louis Arena (7:30 p.m. EST). Detroit has won all three of their previous 2010-11 matchups with Edmonton by a combined score of 14-6.

Friday’s sold-out match will serve as the sixth and final ‘Meijer Kids Night’ to be staged at The Joe this season, with the first 2,500 fans (aged 12 & under) in attendance set to receive a free Hockeytown lunch box compliments of Meijer and the Red Wings. This year’s lunchbox features artwork of players such as Nicklas Lidstrom, Darren Helm, Pavel Datsyuk, Jimmy Howard, and Henrik Zetterberg emblazoned upon a classic rectangular tin container.

WINGS SET TO SURPASS SELLOUT TOTAL FROM 2009-10: With nine home games remaining on their 2010-11 schedule, Detroit has already matched their sellout total from last season (20). Friday’s game versus the Oilers will mark the 21st sellout of the season for the Red Wings.

SELLOUT STREAK CONTINUES IN HOCKEYTOWN: Wednesday’s Wings-Kings showdown marked the 14th consecutive sellout for an NHL game at Joe Louis Arena, a streak that began back on Dec. 19 when the Wings battled the Stars. Detroit currently ranks fourth in the NHL in average attendance at 19,555 fans-per-game through 31 home dates this season.
