DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings hosted their first outdoor practice at Detroit’s Clark Park rink earlier today, Feb. 18, with more than 2,000 fans in attendance. The practice was part of the team’s celebration of Hockey Weekend Across America and their ongoing Hockeytown Thanks initiative.
In order to attend the event, fans were required to make one of three charitable donations. Thanks to the generosity of the fans at Clark Park, the Wings collected:
874 food items, primarily canned goods, for Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan
$1,799 in cash donations to benefit Clark Park Coalition
189 pieces of used hockey equipment, including skates and helmets, for Clark Park and the Detroit Hockey Association’s hockey programs
The Red Wings’ outdoor practice, which was co-sponsored by Tim Hortons and Kroger, concluded with a TimBits minor hockey team scrimmaging alongside Red Wings players. Following the team’s practice, Clark Park held an open public skate courtesy of Kroger.
