The ping pong balls have spoken and Tuesday night's NHL Draft Lottery revealed the Detroit Red Wings own the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Detroit went into the night with the eighth-best odds of winning the Draft Lottery at 6 percent and just a slightly better chance (6.4 percent) of selecting No. 2 overall.
For the sixth consecutive year, Detroit will hold a top-10 pick in the first round.

In 2021, the Red Wings selected Swedish defenseman Simon Edvinsson sixth overall, and after agreeing to a trade with the Dallas Stars, drafted Canadian goalie Sebastian Cossa with the No. 15 overall pick - the first time since 2018 that Detroit had two first-round selections.
Detroit selected Swedish forward Lucas Raymond with the fourth overall pick in 2020, its highest selection since taking Keith Primeau No. 3 overall in 1990. The Red Wings drafted German defenseman Moritz Seider with the sixth pick in 2019, and Czech forward Filip Zadina No. 6 overall and Canadian forward Joe Veleno with the 30th pick in the first round in 2018. Canadian forward Michael Rasmussen was the Red Wings' first-round selection at ninth overall in 2017.
The Montreal Canadiens, who held the highest odds (18.5 percent) of picking No. 1 overall after finishing with the worst record in the NHL this season, won Tuesday's Draft lottery. The New Jersey Devils will pick second, the Arizona Coyotes third, the Seattle Kraken fourth, the Philadelphia Flyers fifth, the Columbus Blue Jackets sixth and the Ottawa Senators seventh.
The 2022 NHL Draft will take place at Montreal's Bell Centre from July 7-8, with the first round set for Thursday, July 7.
