The Red Wings are coming off back-to-back road wins on Tuesday and Wednesday and will look to continue their success tonight against Washington. Detroit is in the middle of a 6 game road trip, but had two days off at home before coming to the nations Capital. The last time these teams met Justin Abdelkader scored twice and Detroit was able to rally back with three goals in the third period winning, 4-2.
The Red Wings placed Johan Franzen on injured reserve Thursday with an upper-body injury and forward Tomas Jurco is out with a disc problem in his back. With injuries starting to pile up, Detroit will keep its 'next man up' mentality as the recalled Rookie forward Teemu Pulkkinen from the Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Friday to help out. Pulkkinen, who had the most goals in the AHL (20), skated with center Riley Sheahan and forward Drew Miller during practice. "He just seems to be a player who scores and has scored his whole life," coach Mike Babcock said. "So, is he ready to score in the NHL? We're always looking for goals and if he can score, we're happy to have him … plus, he's a right-hand shot."
