DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned right wing Teemu Pulkkinen to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
A native of Vantaa, Finland, Pulkkinen appeared in three games with the Red Wings after making his NHL debut on March 14 versus Edmonton. During his time in the NHL, he logged two penalty minutes and four shots on goal while averaging 7:28 of ice time. The 22-year-old winger currently leads the Griffins and is 15th in the AHL with 51 points (26-25-51) in 60 games. A fourth-round draft choice (111th overall) of Detroit in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Pulkkinen joined Grand Rapids late last season and appeared in 14 postseason contests with the team, recording five points (3-2-5). Prior to making the move to North America, the 5-foot-10, 198-lb., forward registered 128 points (49-79-128) in 185 games with Jokerit of Finland’s SM-Liiga.
Winners of three straight and riding a 10-game home point streak (8-0-2), the Red Wings (33-24-13) will host the Minnesota Wild tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN/97.1 The Ticket) before hitting the road to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
