– Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk
was named the NHL’s ‘Second Star’ for the month of December.
Datsyuk is joined by Ottawa Senators center Jason Spezza (First Star) and San Jose Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov (Third Star) have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the month.
Datsyuk ranked third among NHL scorers for the month with 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) and posted a plus-11 rating in 15 games. He recorded points in 11 of 14 games, including two goals and an assist against Montreal on Dec. 4. He also had three-assist games against Minnesota (Dec. 7), Washington (Dec. 17) and St. Louis (Dec. 26). He scored a game-winning goal and added two assists against Phoenix on Dec. 29.
Datsyuk is second in scoring on the Red Wings and ninth among all NHL players with 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists) in 40 games.
The Red Wings went 12-2-1 in December, improving their NHL-best record to 29-8-3.
Datsyuk is the second Wings' player to earn monthly honors from the league. In October, left wing Henrik Zetterberg
was named 'First Star' for the month that he scored 10 goals with 12 assists.
