– The Red Wings received bad news prior to Friday’s game against the New Jersey Devils when they learned they would be without star center Pavel Datsyuk
Datsyuk, who missed the first five games of the season with a separated shoulder, was a late scratch against the Devils with a sore groin.
Datsyuk had points in each of his first six games, producing five goals and five assists. He was named the NHL’s Second Star for the week ending Nov. 2 when he had three consecutive multi-point games, leading the Red Wings to a 2-0-1 mark that included regulation wins over Washington and Los Angeles. He is listed as day to day.
With Datsyuk sidelined, Joakim Andersson was a late addition to the lineup, rejoining center Luke Glendening’s fourth line along with forward Drew Miller.
Andersson was a healthy scratch in the Wings’ last game – a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday. In 12 games this season, he has no points with a minus-2 rating.
