NEWARK -- Early in the first period, Red Wings left wing Darren Helm received a hard check from the New Jersey Devils' Travis Zajac and suffered an upper-body injury.
He did not return to the game.

Helm was going for a loose puck when Zajac jarred him with a borderline check from behind.
Helm didn't see it coming and fell awkwardly to the ice with his right wrist taking the brunt of the impact.
He immediately skated towards the Wings bench and needed help to be ushered off the ice from defensemen Trevor Daley and Mike Green.
Helm finished with just four shifts for 2:03.
In 19 games, Helm has one goal among his six points and is minus-5 with an average ice time of 15:09.
The Wings officially announced Helm was done for the day with an upper-body injury but didn't have much new on his condition after the game.
"He'll be out for some time," Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "I don't have his time period yet. I'll know more on Monday but he'll be out for some time."
This is a major blow to the Wings and Helm if he is lost for a significant period. He has worked his way onto Detroit's first line with Anthony Mantha and Dylan Larkin because of his grit and tenacity on the forecheck.
