With Nemeth, the Wings were looking for a solid, defensive defenseman who was still young but had NHL experience.
Nemeth, who turned 28 on Feb. 8, turned out to be just what the Wings hoped he would be, a stalwart presence on the blue line who could kill penalties.
At 6-foot-3, 228 pounds, Nemeth can match up against the biggest forwards in the league.
Plus, Nemeth is one of the few left-shot defensemen left on the roster, along with Danny DeKeyser, Dennis Cholowski and the recently acquired Marc Staal.
A healthy DeKeyser, the addition of Staal and more experience under the belts of Filip Hronek, Cholowski and Gustav Lindstrom should help make Nemeth's job a bit easier when the Red Wings start the 2020-21 season.
300 - On Feb. 7 at Columbus, Nemeth played in his 300th career NHL game. In the 2-0 loss, Nemeth had one hit and one blocked shot in 24:39. He finished the season with 314 games.
64 - Nemeth played 64 games in his first season with the Wings, ranking sixth on the team in that category. Tyler Bertuzzi and Dylan Larkin tied for the team lead with 71.
6 - Like most of the team, Nemeth had to miss some games due to injury. In his case, it was just six during a nine-game span from Nov. 12-21 and Nov. 29. Fellow defenseman DeKeyser led the Wings with 63 man-games lost. Nemeth missed what turned out to be the final game of the season on March 10 because his wife was due to have their first child.
92 - Nemeth led the Wings with 92 blocked shots. Hronek was second with 74 and Luke Glendening was third with 68. Nemeth had 131 blocks in 74 games with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2018-19 season.
1 - Nemeth scored one goal, the game-winner in a 3-1 home victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 29. He also had one goal the previous season.
