by Bill Roose / Detroit Red Wings

By The Numbers will highlight the Red Wings on-ice accomplishments during the first half of the 2015-16 season. For the next few days By The Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on their statistical highs. Here is a look at defenseman Niklas Kronwall.

Leads Red Wings’ defensemen and is tied for fourth in the Atlantic Division with Buffalo’s Rasmus Ristolainen in power-play assists. Last season, Kronwall finished third in the division with 20 PPA.

700

Reached the milestone for games played when the Red Wings hosted the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 3. Since then, he has passed the late Gary Bergman (706) and Reed Larson (708) on the team’s all-time list for games played by defensemen. Only Nicklas Lidstrom (1,564), Marcel Pronovost (983) and Red Kelly (846) played in more games for the Wings than Kronwall (719).

350

Picked up the milestone point with a nifty assist on Gustav Nyquist’s overtime winner against Nashville on Dec. 5. Kronwall (356) is fourth all-time in points among franchise defensemen, trailing Lidstrom (1,142), Larson (570) and Kelly (472).

22:45

Leads team defensemen, and is fifth among Atlantic Division blue liners, in average ice-time per game. For the past four seasons he has led Wings’ D-men in average ice-time. However, each year those numbers have dwindled. Through the first half of this season his ice-time is down more than a minute from 2014-15 when he logged an average of 23:50 per game.

Game-winning goals scored in the first half of the season, surpassing the past two seasons combined. His game winners came during a one-week stretch at Edmonton (Nov. 27) and at home against Arizona (Dec. 3), during his 700th career game.
